  • Fish Species: The lake is home to rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout, with rainbow trout being heavily stocked to maintain a healthy fish population. Additionally, channel catfish and northern pike are present, though the high altitude and cold winters limit the best fishing to trout. 
  • Fishing Conditions: Spanning approximately 283 acres at an elevation of 7,113 feet, Ashurst Lake is a high-altitude lake. The lake’s relatively shallow nature can lead to weed growth and algae blooms, particularly in late summer, which may affect fishing conditions. 
  • Boating Regulations: Boating is permitted with electric motors or gas motors up to 10 horsepower. The lake features a boat ramp for easy access. 
  • Amenities: The lake area includes two developed campgrounds: Ashurst Lake Campground and Forked Pine Campground, each offering 25 single-unit campsites with tables, fire rings, and cooking grills. Drinking water and vault toilets are available.

  • Trout Fishing: During spring and early summer, anglers can find success using nightcrawlers or PowerBait. Trolling small lures like Joe’s Flies and Kastmasters is also effective. Fly anglers are catching fish on Wooly Buggers and Simi-seal leeches in black, brown, and olive colors.
